The Single Burning Item (SBI) EN 13823 is considered the universal building standard for PC sheets in the European market.  The same is true for the ASTM E84 in North America market. However, in actual fact, this isn’t necessarily the situation. Besides the various required standards in different countries, the PC sheet geometry, thickness and weight has an important impact on the FR performances. Therefore, all new requests should be tested by the customer based on the required product and standard to find out what type of FR product and LDR meets a specific request.It is important to know that FR performance isn’t derived from the FR MB only, but also the type of Polycarbonate the customer uses to mix with the MB.  PC grades with lower MFI and branched grades will perform significantly better compared to linear and high MFI grades. Fire tests conducted by Kafrit are limited to UL-94 and LOI only. Tests based on different building standards must be conducted by the sheet producers on a specific product (thickness, geometry, weight and color).
